The EMPOWER Youth Lab (Empowering and Motivating Positive Outcomes, Well-being, & Experiences with Race/Ethnicity/Culture) aims to conduct meaningful, collaborative, culturally-focused research and programs with youth and their families.

Our lab is dedicated to understanding cultural processes and experiences, and impacts on psychological, educational, and health outcomes/disparities. We focus on the role of cultural resilience and strengths (e.g., ethnic-racial identity, ethnic-racial socialization and cultural values) and race-related risk experiences (e.g., discrimination, colorism) primarily among Latino/a, Black, and Multiracial youth.

We aim to create culturally-affirming spaces in homes, schools, and communities!

We are recruiting Mixed Children 5 to 11 and a Caregiver for a PAID Study!

The goal of this project is to better understand risk and resilience factors in Multiracial/Mixed children’s family, ethnic/racial/cultural, and peer environments, and how these factors relate to children’s development and outcomes.

If you have a Mixed child (i.e., child has caregivers with 2 or more different races/ethnicities) who is 5-11 years of age, click below to participate:
